Insensible scripts or insensible we!!!

Younger generation is basically a group excited about cinema. Be it off-screen, onscreen or mere viewership. I am a viewer but not a mere one. I do have opinions and suggestions regarding the movies I watch. As far as I know, there are 3 kinds of movie lovers. One, who believes cinema, is just a time pass and entertainment. If a movie entertains, it’s a good one. No matter, if it’s full of masala mix, unrealism and superhuman kind. Two, who thinks cinema, is a great medium to showcase sensible social issues (an eye opener). Three, who feels films, have to be sensibly entertaining. I am the 2nd kind and sometimes the 3rd. A sensible movie, but entertaining enough deserves a pat on the shoulder.

Ok let me try to tell you what a sensible movie is. Sensible movies which have a good storyline that is simple, realistic and natural (may or may not have executed well), movies concentrating on burning social issues and leaves out a strong message, a real life story could make a sensible movie, stories with which an ordinary man can identify himself. These are few kinds of movies which I will call sensible. I hope I am clear now.

Good stories or movies do not necessarily need a super star to make it a great visual feast. Actors are just a medium/ mediators to convey messages to a mass audience. But, yes, all cannot be good mediators. It definitely needs talent.

When film industries in different languages are moving forward in quality, Mollywood is reversing. Sometimes we become nostalgic thinking about the Golden times of Malayalam cinema and today it remains as a cherished moment. As Stardom is much in the limelight than ever before, Malayalam cinema is losing its quality and image.

Malayalam cinema cannot afford big budgets. Even then call sheets are only for superstars, no matter what the budget is, no matter if the character suits them or not.

I have no intention to change anyone’s attitudes because different people have different interests. But for the attention of die hard fans of superstars, there are Malayalam movies which are sensible enough having lots to speak, but it lingers neither in the ears of the viewers nor in the DTS theatres. This is highly disappointing. Good films become commercial dumb, but get nominated for highly reputed awards and honours, state wise or nation wise. And absolutely dumb movies give the theatres housefulls and big turnovers to the producers. Where the country recognises, people don’t appreciate. Who is sensible here?
