Scheduled at the right time in March, IPL was the perfect distraction for students during their exam time. The much hyped IPL was full of irregularities and corruption when it was becoming an international victory. But the question remains. What was successful in IPL? That it became a Brand or that it brought in a huge monetary benefit to the country? Whatever it is, the whole system is going to roll in the same unfair way again. The rich becomes richer and the money that comes in is not going to be used for the benefit of the poor or it is not going to be a solution for any of the minor-major problems faced by the country. If a nation gets a monetary benefit; it is well used when the money goes in for the development of the nation.
Why is IPL so hyped when it’s just another cricket tournament? The answer must be simple. IPL has glamour, fashion, celebrity presence and most importantly affluence. Yes. Affluent is the word that the elite class is crazy about.
There has been a good cause when IPL started off. In 2007, IPL gave funds to NGO’s and provided scholarships for the education of the poor and underprivileged. That purpose has been shot out of the boundary. The only purpose remaining is digging up more money through dirty means.
Let me be frank. The only responsible part of all this ugly game is none other than WE, the audience who remains mere spectators and promotes the game. The reason: We want just entertainment and the other things are not a matter of our concern.
